hi, i'm loralie!

Today I’m taking you behind the scenes of my first interior design project, a remodel in Colorado… My first project after going out on my own as an interior designer, that is! After a decade-long career working with some of the top Los Angeles design firms and serving their high-profile clientele, I took time away from my passion to start my family. But I craved the excitement and creativity of bringing someone’s vision for their home to life. So after a few years, I decided to go back to designing, this time as Blue Spruce Interiors. My first major undertaking on my own? A Colorado interior design project for the Bradford Home (otherwise known as #thishouseisboss).
I had known my client Kristen for YEARS, way back when she was my amazing hairstylist. She even did my hair for my wedding! During our appointments, we used to talk about our dream jobs and how we would figure it out. Many years before I went out under my own name, she knew how much I dreamed about being an interior designer again and creating beautiful homes. She would always say that when she had “made it” she was going to hire me to do her house. And she did 🙂
What This Can Teach You About Interior Design
While it can be challenging to put your home in someone else’s hands, know that my job as your interior designer is to listen to your needs and wants – and then take that information and combine it with my professional experience to create the space that will work for YOU and your family.
Trust is EVERYTHING with a client/designer relationship. The projects that run the smoothest and have the best results are the ones where it’s a true partnership. This client was such a joy to work with, and our personal relationship made it even more meaningful when we brought their vision to life!
Over almost 12 months, we fully updated the interior finishes of the home: flooring, staircase, paint, door hardware, and a full kitchen upgrade.
Funny story. We actually had started working together on the kitchen in their first home. We went through the entire design process and picked all of the finishes, details, etc. Then, during the construction’s bidding process, the clients decided to put that house on the market and buy their dream home instead. They involved me in their search, and when we found the Bradford home we all agreed it was the perfect fit. So we took the kitchen design that we had already figured out for their first home and applied it to this one!
Spotlight on The Kitchen
The Bradford kitchen is definitely the focal point of this home. We completely transformed the layout, exchanging the outdated materials for a fresh new look with light blue paint, a gorgeous tile for the island, and herringbone floors.
